A study says, most of the people across the globe are worried about hair fall. Yesterday itself, my sister was yelling, as she shed some more hairs than the usual. One of the notable reasons for hair fall is to understand deeply about this menace of hair fall, one needs to know about the hair scalps, about which the advertising companies blabber about. There are four kinds of scalps – normal, dry, oily, and one a combination of all. For dry hair, one needs to take certain precautions, upon which this blog will enlighten you.

“The hair is the richest ornament of women.” – Martin Luther

Symptoms of Dry Hair:

Most of the time we ignore regarding our scalp and all, but as dry hair can lead to more hair shedding; we need to know its symptoms well. Following are the symptoms of Dry Hair:-

  1.  Tenacious itchiness.
  2. Flakes shedding: Flakes are the dandruff-like matters which are smaller and whiter than dandruff, where dandruff is bigger, yellowish and oily. While dandruff implies a fungal infection, while flakes hint at the excessive use of chemicals and lesser production of sebum (natural oil).
  3. A dry scalp also correlates to dry skin on the other body parts.
  4. It also implies a lack of moisture in our hairs.

Causes of Dry Hair

  1. Using excessive harsh chemical like the colouring of hair and resorting to chemical perming.
  2. With the excessive use of hairdryer and hair straightener machine.
  3.  Using harsh shampoo and conditioner.
  4. Sun Exposure: Overexposure to sun dehydrates the scalp turning hair into a haystack.
  5. Staying in a dry air environment for long.
  6. Nutritional deficiencies.
  7. Excessive washing of hair.
  8. The reduction in sebum production which lessens the scalp lubrication, leading to dry hair.
  9. Indoor heating and our habit of resorting to warm things in the winter.
  10. Inappropriate Care Products: As a shampoo contains chemicals like parabens and other artificial colours, it has a tendency to dehydrate the scalp leading to dry hair.
  11. Vitamin B deficiency: Junk foods, unmonitored diet, etc. result in low vitamin-B intake, which resulting in dampened nutrition in the scalp.

Remedies
We can prevent the dry hair and dry scalp by doing some simple remedies and some home remedies.

Simple Remedies-

  1. Tea Oil Shampoo: Tea tree oil shampoo has anti-microbial properties, thus preventing dandruff and dry flakes.
  2. Even while using a regular shampoo, we need to avoid those shampoos which contain more paraben and artificial colour.
  3. Those suffering dry hairs should resort to the use of possibly a mild shampoo having more moisturisers. Also, the use of shampoos should be limited, hair shouldn’t be washed excessively. A humidifier over all our skin is also a legit remedy.
  4.  Vitamin B: As we saw, the Vitamin B deficiency dampens the scalp nutrition; we need to consume more of it by eating vegetables, fruits, whole-grain bread, cereals and supplements such as flaxseed oil, zinc, etc.
  5. Avoid the exposure to the sun, by covering the hair in extreme heat, especially in summer seasons.

Special Remedies –

  1. Coconut oil and Curry Leaves: Take 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and add 2-3 curry leaves in it, Heat the mixture for 2-3 min and allow the oil to cool. Apply the cooled mixtures on the scalp and massage gently. By the time, immerse a towel in warm water, squeeze the water and wrap the towel for 15 min.
  2. Aloe vera: Squeeze some aloe vera in 3 to 4 coconut oil and heat it till it becomes brownish. After the oil gets cooled, apply the mixture with cotton (avoid the use of nail).
  3. Moisturising oil: To fight the dry scalp, the use of moisturising oils like coconut and olive oil. Massaging the scalp with a little oil moisturizes and lubricates it, and also helps the pores to open up and produce more natural oils. Other oils like Jojoba oil, sunflower oil and tea tree oil or mixture of that, can be bought to use.

Before using these remedies, wash the hair without shampoo and dry the hair without dryer; so the dust will be removed from the scalp. For the regrowth of hair, the juice of the onion is recommended, just twice a month.

Visit Doctor:
Home remedies have some limitations, so it is advisable to visit the doctor once the irritation due to dry hair gets worse. If the cause of irritation is unknown, it is strongly recommended to visit an allergist or a dermatologist.
