Welcome to the femaleya! Here we are going to discuss the skin layer and then the role of niacinamide in the skincare routine and why it is important for skincare.
The skin is divided into three layers; epidermis, dermis and subcutaneous layer 1. There have three layers of skin. 2. The outermost/top layer of skin is called the epidermis. 3. It creates our skin tone and waterproof barrier. 4. It doesn’t contain any blood vessels but has many small nerve endings. 5. It consists of epithelial cells. The thickness is different in different. For instance, thickest on palms of the hand and sole of feet- 1.5 mm but thin and delicate on eyelids.
The epidermis is arranged in 5 layers
Stratum corneum
Luciderm
Granulosum
Spinosurm
germinativum/ basal
2. The dermis
The inner-layer/innermost of the skin is called the dermis It is also called the true skin It is sturdy, flexible and highly elastic It consists of connective tissues with elastic and collagen fibres, numerous blood vessels and nerves etc.. The dermis is arranged in 2 layers Papillary layer Reticular layer.
3. Subcutaneous layer/ tissue
It is also called the hypodermis The hypodermis lies below the dermis It provides insulations and keeps your body warm It is a thick layer of loose connective tissue and fatty tissue and this is called adipose tissues It gives smoothness and silhouette to the body It stores fat for use as an energy It works as a shielding cushion for the outer skin The hair follicle is rooted in this layer.
Welcome to femaleya! Today we will discuss hair care and healthy hair care tips. Hair plays an important role in our appearance and elegant looks. Although you may be a well appealing person look wise if your hair’s health is not in place then it won’t make you a complete person which can ultimately hamper your personality.
Hair fall, thin hair, frizzy hair and hair greying at young age and mid-age, has become the biggest problem nowadays.
In this article, I will try to throw some light on these problems and how they can be dealt with.
Hair Care Tips:
The first important and foremost thing for healthy hair is to take a healthy diet that nourishes our health and invigorates our hair roots, therefore our hair becomes strong, shiny and lush and also controls the hair fall and prevents hair greying at a young age.
Keep your hair clean and make sure to clean it twice a week reason being in many moderate climatic conditions there is a lot of dust and one sweats a lot which makes your hair dirty and if not cleaned at regular intervals will ruin its health. During winter, use the shampoo once a week, and to keep your scalp clean washing your hair with lukewarm water is recommended.
Those people who have dry hair should use shampoo once a week and should rinse their hair with warm water twice a week. The benefit is that this will save your hair from drying out.
For those who are suffering from mild dandruff issues the best way to get rid of mild dandruff naturally is by mixing a half tablespoon of lemon juice in one litre of water and applying it to the scalp. Allow it to remain on the scalp for a few minutes and then wash your hair with water at room temperature. This will not only clean your scalp and hair but will also be useful for the control of dandruff.
As a kid, my mother used to wash my hair with a soap named kesha nikhar. That time my hair was so silky and lush even in my teens, I used to wash my hair with soap but after getting into college I stopped using it and switched to shampoo. The shampoo had many harsh chemicals such as sodium laurel sulfate, paraben, formaldehyde, sodium chloride and fragrances and artificial colours which is very harmful to your hair. So try to use any mild shampoo which has these chemicals in limited levels like using baby hair shampoo, transparent shampoo etc.
it is better to use soap to wash your hair. As soap is made from oils and cause less damage to the hair, but there is one of the biggest problems in using soap is that soap does not foam with hard water and also coagulated on the hair. Therefore if in your area where your residence gets soft water then use soap otherwise shampoo is advisable.
If you experience sudden hair fall then it’s high time to change your shampoo. Firstly shampoos contain so many chemicals which can make your scalp sensitized and that can cause hair fall. Earlier in our country, everyone used natural substances for their hair care for instance reetha (soap nut),shikaki to wash their hair. From my viewpoint, even today’s era should use these natural ingredients to wash their hair.
Hair conditioners – hair conditioner contains oil as well as other chemicals for making the hair soft, if you want to make your hair naturally conditioning then right after washing your hair, take two drops of coconut oil or olive oil or almond oil into your palm and apply on a strand of the hair, leave it for 2 to 3 minutes and after that wash your hair with warm water. Your hair will not only get untangled but also will get strengthened.
Hair dye- the person who uses hair dye on their hair should keep in mind that it should contain ammonia in it as ammonia causes bleaching of the hair then the artificial colour present in dye causes hair damage.
Avoid using hair drier or hair iron frequently as it causes split ends over a period of time.
Comb- always use a big-toothed comb to untangle your hair. As a result, it can reduce your hair break. Always buy the best quality comb and brush that you can afford. Don’t use a cheap nylon brush or metal brush as it damages your scalp first then it causes hair breakage due to friction and moreover it develop static electricity in the hair which is the reason hair gets damaged. Try to use a wooden comb.
Never share or let others use your brush and combs because they transmit head lice, fungal infections, dandruff and bacterial infection from one person to another person.
Those who have long hair should get their hair trimmed every two months.
finally, yet importantly, many people are ignoring that sunlight can damage your hair so always cover your hair properly while out in sun. UVA rays in sunlight, penetrate into the skin and destroy the colour forming cells of hair called melanocytes which damage the hair. So always cover your hair with a hat, cap or any cloth for that matter.
Always apply sunscreen first, then moisturizing. Keep in mind that the first layer should be sunscreen and allow it to soak in your skin for a few minutes. While selecting the moisturiser to keep in mind the weather where you live and your skin type. Please always do a patch taste before using any products.

This type of skin is unfortunately to found but not rare. It is balanced between dry and oily skin, therefore it is well-balanced skin. The normal skin is sound with good muscle tone. It is soft and smooth. The pores are tight and the skin leads to having a crystalline glow.
Dry skin
There is a lack of lubrication caused by an under secretion of sebum (natural oil) from the sebaceous glands. The dry skin can also become dehydrated because of a lack of moisture content. This skin condition can be easily recognised by fine lines around the eyes and mouth. The skin is often rough and flaky in the nose and cheeks Those with dry skin are spared the problems of acne and spots but as they ages, the skin loses elasticity.
Sensitive and allergic skin
This skin is very fine in texture and usually has a tendency of broken capillaries, on the cheek and sides of the nose, where the skin is tightly drawn and very thin. It shows a great tendency of becoming breaking out in rashes after severe treatment or irritation through strong preparations. It is easily getting to temperature exposure like cold, heat and wind.
Oily skin
Oily skin is coarser and thicker than other types and has a greater tendency to develop open pores, blackheads, pimples and papules. It appears, mainly around the nose and chin. They are generally caused by the sebaceous gland being clogged which in turn is caused by poor circulation. The very dilated pores give the skin an orange peel-like appearance due to the excessive production of sebum which prevents the pores from closing.
Combination skin This is quite common and is rather difficult to treat It is usually characterised by an oily centre panel or Tzone, with pores and slight oiliness in these areas. Sometimes spots appear in these areas moreover clogged pores and blackheads. The cheeks, eye areas and throat are frequently become dry.
Matured skin
This skin type shows the characteristics of dry skin but to a greater extent. It may look very parched, saggy and dehydrated if no skincare has been practised during the younger years It is deeply lined and loose due to a lack of moisture

Humectants, Emollients and occlusive- Know the terms and what’s the major difference?
To choose the best moisturizer for once skin, One should know the differences between humectants, emollients and occlusives. Making it clearer, here we differentiated it into three parts. Let’s see
1.Humectants 2. Emollients 3. Occlusives
First, we should understand, Why moisturizer is important for skincare.
Using the right type of moisturiser helps maintain the balance of skin and hair. If your skin is too oily or too dry, There is a chance to break down or acne. Therefore, The dermatologist recommends that when your skin is too oily, use lotion-based moisturizer rather than cream and choose that moisturiser which mainly contains Humectant as an active ingredient and emollient based moisturizer. However, Your skin is dry and Super dry than plump for a cream-based moisturizer, Choose active ingredients as occlusive and then other two ingredients.
Moisturizer helps to reduce blemishes.
It helps against wrinkles.
What are humectants? Humectants are like Magnet that attracts water. They tug moisture from the air into the epidermis (upper layer of your skin)But not all humectants work the same way. Some of them supply your skin with moisture directly to your skin while Others help get rid of dead skin cells. For which skin type is it ideal? It’s ideal for a normal, oily and combination skin.
Some good humectants are Glycerin Hyaluronic acid Alpha Hydroxy acids Glycolic Lactic acids Sorbitol Sodium Urea Propylene glycol To plump up the skin, Glycerin and hyaluronic acids are the best. Normally hyaluronic acid used in wrinkle treatment products. It’s often integrated with vitamin C to help the moisture the dry skin. Pros
Light in the weight
Plump the skin
Brightens and smoothen the skin.
2.Emollient An emollient works as a softener which softens the dry, rough skin. When the top skin layer doesn’t get enough water, it becomes dry. It creates a layer on the skin which helps in water loss. Emollients are the part of a moisturizer that keeps your skin soften and smoothen.
Pros 1. It makes your skin softer 2. Protect your skin from environmental barriers. The types of emollients are 1. Cream 2.lotion 3.ointment
Cream-creams have a balance of Water and oil. It is easy to spread onto the skin but gives less moisture in comparison of Ointment. It is less greasy and lighter, so it is the best option to use in the day time.
Ointment– It is mostly oil-based and greasy. It is thick so this prevents the water loss from the skin. One need not be reapplied.
Lotion -Lotions are mostly liquid form with only a small amount of oil. They’re the least moisturizing amongst the three types of emollients. This type of emollient(Lotion) is good for daytime use because they’re thin in nature and easy to apply but the only problem is that you have to reapply lotions frequently. Main ingredients Squalene Dimethicone Ceramides Bee wax Paraffin Cetyl alcohol
3. OCCLUSIVES It is designed to provide a protective seal over skin and lock in hydration. It traps the moisturizer and makes a barrier on the skin who holds the humectants and emollients. The main ingredients are 1. Wax 2. petrolatum 3.oils 4.silicone all the ingredients you would find in your moisturizer like humectant, emollients and occlusive but you have to decide which ingredients are good for your skin.
