Nowadays hair fall is one of the most common problems for everyone. In this busy 21st Century, we hardly have time for self-care. Out of 10, at least seven people are suffering from hair fall problems. The major reason for this is that we do not know our hair type and scalp. Using the shampoos randomly is adversely affecting our hair, resulting in several problems.

In my case, I have dry hair. Earlier, I used to apply any shampoo on my hair and when I went to the salon; my beautician used to suggest some fancy shampoo and labelled it as “good for your hair”. Since I love my hair (well who does not) and am very concerned about it, I bought shampoo and conditioner which cost around 1800 Rs.

“Straight, wavy or curly, if it’s healthy, it’s beautiful”

The outcome was, after applying that product made my hair duller and frizzier than ever. Finally, I stopped using those shampoos. After doing vigorous research about my hair type, I found out that my hair-type is Dry. Thus, I stopped buying some random fancy products and started using shampoos suitable for my type.

In this blog, I will tell you the different types of the scalp. These basic ideas gave me a permanent solution to my scalp related problems, hope will be the same for you too! There is a major difference between Hair types and Scalp. In this blog, I will explain various types of hair. Knowing your scalp type helps you to choose the right shampoo and conditioners. You also get to choose the perfect treatment for your scalp and hair.

Know Your Scalp Type for Better Care Of Your Hair

Alike the different skin-types, we have the same types for the scalp. They are

  1. Oily-type
  2. Dry-type
  3. Normal-type
  4. Combination-type

1. OILY SCALP- HOW DO I RECOGNIZE MY SCALP-TYPE?

This is a very common question of how to decide the type of hair. Wait until you answer these questions-
1. On waking up, do you feel like your hair has oiled?
2. Does your hair become unsteady after blow-dry?
3.One of the major things which help you decide whether your scalp is oily or not that if you have pimples on your forehead often?
4. If you are finding dead-skin flakes in your hair or on your shoulders, you might have dandruff, a condition also known as ‘seborrheic dermatitis’.
5. Can you smell a scent in your hair?
Due to excess sebum production, the scalp looks oily, whereas your hair might look slick, heavy, and stringy. People who have an oily scalp frequently experience itchy scalp, which typically accompanied by visible dandruff.
1. An oily scalp is the result of febrile sebaceous glands, which, in turn, is the result of excess sebum.
2. Sebum is a natural waxy that moisturizes our skin and hair, in general, it is a wax/oily
3. if you have an oily scalp, there are chances of pimples or acne and dandruff.

ELUCIDATIONS: OILY-TYPE
1.if you have an oily scalp, there are some solutions I will recommend for your hair:
2. Consume a diet that is low in sugar and avoid having processed or oily food.
3. If your scalp often gets sweaty, try using a dry shampoo alternatively with a regular shampoo. DO NOT SHAMPOO MORE THAN THRICE A WEEK.
4. Use a product, which hydrates your skin and gives volume to your hair.
5. Leave your shampoo in the scalp for a couple of minutes after applying shampoo on the scalp. It helps in increasing the volume of your hair after the wash.

2. DRY SCALP- HOW DO I RECOGNIZE MY SCALP-TYPE?
Sort to answer the below questions, if you are suffering from any of these problems, you have dry scalp.
1. Is your hair frizzy or unmanageable most of the time?
2. Does your hair break often as you comb your hair?
3. Does your hair become knotty frequently?
4. Do you feel itchy on the scalp, often?
5. Do you find flakes of dead skin like dandruff?
If your answer is yes, then have a dry scalp. The reason could be that it is a result of a lack of natural moisture. Our glands create a natural moisturizing substance – sebum (as discussed earlier). Due to the environmental changes, and consuming harmful chemicals, the level of sebum is reduced. If you do not help, your body replaces this dehydration; your skin cells dry out, start flaking, and these flakes are different from the dandruff flakes.
One of the reasons for hair fall is dry hair and scalp. If you have dry hair, then needs to be repaired by using the right products and maintaining a proper diet and dietary pattern as well.

ELUCIDATIONS: DRY-TYPE
1. Avoid using hair dryers.
2. Clean your scalp by washing hair; at least 2 to 3 times a week. It will reduce hair breakage.
3. Use a shampoo, which contains moisturize and hydration properties.
4. Do a hair spa within 2 to 3 months. It will make your hair smooth and repair hair breakage.
5. Oiling; it is necessary to oil your hair with warm oil before a quick hair wash.
If you have dry hair, then you must try out some DIY and homemade solutions.

3. NORMAL SCALP- HOW DO I RECOGNIZE MY SCALP-TYPE?
If your answer is ‘yes’ to these questions, then have a normal scalp
1. Is your hair dry in winters and oily in summer?
2. Do you find your hair manageable without using many products?
If your answer is yes then congratulations, you have a normal scalp, which is VERY, VERY RARE AND YOU ARE FORTUNATE! |
If you take a well-balanced diet and reduce the usage of synthetic hair products, then you can maintain your scalp as it is.
Usually, a normal scalp has balanced pH levels. Normal pH level helps destroy harmful bacteria and maintain healthy hair.

ELUCIDATIONS: NORMAL-TYPE
If you want to maintain normal-type hair, then
1. Minimize the usage of chemicals/synthetic products.
2. Avoid dying and perming your hair.
3.  Use a shampoo that contains pH-balanced substances.

4. COMBINATION SCALP- HOW DO I RECOGNIZE MY SCALP-TYPE?
1. Does your hair become frizzy /tangled on some days and oily on others?
2. Do you have a lot of split ends?
3. If your roots are oily but your ends are dry and rough, then you have combination hair.
one of the main reasons could be that excessive oils are blocked at the root level; which leaves your hair-tips dry.

ELUCIDATIONS: COMBINATION-TYPE
1. On doing yoga or exercise, if your scalp becomes too sweaty, just wash your hair with normal water without shampoo.
2. Use a mild shampoo
3. Oiling the strings of the length of hair
4. Use the same shampoo on your scalp which is used on an oily scalp.
5. For combination-type of hair; conditioner is a must.
Now you know your hair and scalp type. Carefully, use the shampoos according to your types of the scalp. I will suggest that you go for DIY and home remedies for hair fall and hair regrowth. Just comment below on which kind of hair you have.
